★★
The fact that this book let me down hurts my heart to no end. I loved Strange the Dreamer, as you could probably tell by my review. If you follow me, you would know that I read this book in less than 48 hours, because I was excited for this book! It just really let me down.
So much that happened in this book I didn't sign up for and not in a good way. There was so much terror, abuse, and even more sadness then I expected.
I would've enjoyed Nova and Kora's story more, if they've been introduced in the first book. It was hard to feel for these characters that you just met, when you had these well-known characters from the first book.
Something that was lacking in this book was plot, it just was not there. It seemed like the only important parts of the book were in the last 150 pages. The rest of the book was a lot of backstory and unnecessary sitting around.
There would've been more going on if we didn't have to see Ruza, Thyon and Calixte, joking around and just exploring. I could've done with just the other POVs that were important to the story.
In this book, Lazlo and Sarai just annoyed me and I honestly preferred their relationship in their dreams to the one with them actually together. Lazlo was just kind of....there in this sequel, he didn't do anything but follow Sarai around and kiss her.
At the end of everything that happened, I quite honestly expected at least 2 or 3 people to be dead. As sad as I was to see Eril-Fane and Azareen die, it added to the plot and fueled Lazlo and Sarai. Once they were 'saved' I was actually a little upset, because it doesn't seem like something Laini Taylor would reverse.
I'm extremely disappointed that one of my favorite book sequels let me down, it just wasn't meant to be.
