June Wrapup

100 Days by Nicole McInnes
I found most of the characters and story line to be very cliche. The small love triangle with the threesome seemed thrown in last minute. The writing overall was alright, although I'm not sure I would recommend this book to someone.

Study in Charlotte, The Last of August, The Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro
I fell in love with the first book, so I picked up the sequels. The Last of August disappointed me and was VERY confusing, I didn't understand some of the story until the next book. I will tell you that The Case for Jamie, made up for the confusion and lack of actual plot in The Last of August.

I loved this book! It was an amazing story and interesting plot. I didn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. I definitely recommend it to everyone who likes a little mystery, but that's not the main focus.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
I just could not get into this book, the names and shifts between timelines were just too much to take in. I might try to reread in a few years to see if I like it better, but as of now it's not on my favorites list.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
This is basically a beauty and the beast type story and I'm not one for that type of genre, but this was well thought out and the characters had meaning behind their motives.

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
This book took so long to get to the actual story, so many unnecessary pages! Once it finally got into the plot, it was pretty good. I just wish it had happened faster.

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
This book was a nice short read and I actually liked the switch between past and present in this story, because it made sense and was necessary.

Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
This book was pretty good, but had some underlying sad parts and just made you want to give the character a big hug, which if you feel bad for a character is an amazing writer.

The Giver and Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry
I read the first book and immediately got the second, I was disappointed because I thought it was going to take place right after The Giver. Instead, the story followed a completely new character, who I did enjoy reading about, but was not who I expected to be reading about.

You Don't Know My Name and You Won't Know I'm Gone
by Kristen Orlando
I'm going to have a little rant for a second, I read the first book, thought it was pretty good, grabbed the second one and let me tell you, the sequel drove me insane. The character(Reagan) kept doing the exact opposite of what she was told to do, which was very important for the situation(s). I wanted to Reagan to just follow orders and listen to others, but every single time, she went rogue. Honestly, I almost didn't finish this book, and I have no want or need to read the next book.

Monsoon Mansion: A Memoir by Cinelle Barnes
The writing style and way the story was beautifully written and almost sounded like a song. The author was very good at making you sympathize with the character and her situation, I highly recommend it!

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson
I have mixed emotions for this book. It's a cool concept, but I've seen it before in Paper Towns. The main character ended up hurting everyone around her and didn't really seem to care, and people forgive her even though she was really selfish.

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
This book is terrible, the character makes awful decisions again and again. The author's writing style makes you think to do the same and does not do a good job of actually telling what's going on in the story. I would NOT recommend reading this book, especially if you've ever struggled with your weight.

Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
This book had a strange plot, the main character (Naomi) falls and cannot remember the last 4 years of her life. Naomi changes completely after falling and it just seemed strange to me. She just can't decide which guy to choice (of out 3) and I just felt like that was too much going on along with story line. The last chapters just felt rushed, trying to tie up so many loose ends.

Unfriended by Rachel Vail
This book was terrible, I'm surprised it's listed under Young Adult. The problems and story line are so juvenile and childish. The "hate note" Hazel gave to Truly was something a little kid would write, and the 8th graders going to recess and having dirt on their faces, not realistic! The drama was unbearable and the "romances" were unnecessary.

Enter Title Here by Rahul Kanakia
This book was awful, the protagonist is a spoiled brat and doesn't care what happens to anyone around her.The writing was hard to follow and not very vivid, the author didn't seem to put much thought into the book. It was honestly hard to read and had a hard time finishing it.

This Star Won't Go Out by Esther Earl Grace
This book was beautifully written. I definitely recommend it for anyone who loved The Fault in Our Stars. As you read this book, you can see things here and there that John Green worked into the book and its characters.

Monday's Not Coming
This book.....UGH I just don't know how to feel! I felt a little confused towards the end with the plot twist, I wasn't really sure what was happening, but I eventually figured it out after a rereading of the confusing chapters. I felt like the twist make sense with why Claudia was so confused about Monday and her disappearance. I didn't see why Michael had to be in the story, it felt a little bit too much with the entire story. The last chapters felt a little rushed, trying to tie up the loose ends of the Before and the After chapters.

The Vinyl Princess by Yvonne Prinz
SPOILERS
This book is definitely for people who love music and bands. There are a ton of music and song references. Joel (William) in this book was such a strange plot-line, I wanted something more to happen after the burglaries, it was "Ohh! It's Joel. It's okay now, he's gone forever." The store closing felt like something to just add more pages to the book, but didn't add anything to the story at the end. I just felt a little confused at all the different empty plots.

Dumplin' and Puddin' by Julie Murphy
I honestly love Bo so much in this book.I loved Willowdean and Bo's relationship.
Millie is also adorable and I cannot wait to read Puddin' especially after growing so attached to these characters!

I do have to say, I was disappointed by the sequel. It seemed predictable, and cliche, I felt like half the pages didn't really have meaning or add anything to the story. I really did like Millie, she's adorable in this book though, didn't like Callie, even though it seems you should like her towards the end. I also would've liked to have more time with some of the other characters from Dumplin' in the book.

In Search of Us by Ava Dellaira
I cannot say enough to tell you how much I enjoyed this book! I loved the backstory and actual interest in both POVs. The characters had well thought out backstories and character arcs. The plot twist was super unexpected and almost had me in tears. I would definitely read again and I'm going to purchase a copy of this book.

Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
I loved this book, the characters, the story line and well done portrayal of mental illnesses. I'm most definitely going to reread this book and buy it, not to mention the cover is beautiful. I also enjoyed the strange actual plot not including mental illness.

 The Traitor's Game
This book was predictable, but it was an enjoyable  read and had some twists and turns. I did find the Olden Blade story-line towards the end a little confusing, but overall I liked it. The second book, looks interesting, so I will be reading the sequel.

Image result for scythe book

 Scythe by Neal Shusterman
When I was reading this book, it felt like reading a classic dystopian book. I've waited for a while to read this book and I wish I'd read it sooner! The characters had actual story arcs and meaning behind their motives and you actually felt for the characters and cared about what happened to them. I'm anxious to pick up the sequel.

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
I had such high hopes for this book and was slightly disappointed by the story. Yes, there were a lot of plot twists, but it felt so forced! We do need strong characters, but Alosa got on my nerves with her quips and certain things she did, I honestly started to hate her. In some parts of this book, it literally made me ache. I will pick up the sequel, but I hope it's better then this one.

 Everless
I am in love with this book. I finished it in one sitting, and did not take my eyes off the story. At first, the first few chapters confused me until I started putting together the stories and plots. All the characters are amazing and actually have reasons to motives for being cruel, kind or.....fake. I cannot wait for the next book!
