Fawkes by Nadine Brandes ★ ★ I picked this book up thinking it was a historical fiction book, but I found out immediately that it was also a fantasy book, which I discovered out did not mix very well in this book. This book is loosely based off Guy Fawkes who attempted to kill King James, only in our book there's the stone plague and magical masks that people wear to give them power. We find out that our main character, Thomas, did not receive his mask from his father, which is the only way to receive a mask, so Thomas goes out to find his father. Thomas's father agrees to give him a mask if he helps with his plot to kill the king, Thomas says 'sure, why not?' which irritated me so much. Why on earth would you commit to doing something you had no need or want to do only to receive the mask? Ash Princess by Laura Sebastia n ★ ★ ★ ★ Theodosia was 6 when her country was invaded and her mother, was murdered before her eyes. Theo was crowned Ash Princess, a title given to hear to bear her shame. Theodosia has now been a prisoner in her own palace for 10 year. She's endured abuse and ridicule of the Kaiser. Theo finally hits her breaking point when the Kaiser forces Theo to kill her father, and Theo knows she needs to stand up. Theo finds an a childhood friend who is willing to take her away from the palace, but she knows she must fight for her people and their freedom. Theo comes up a plan to turn the Kaiser's son against him, creating a rift between the father and son. For years the Ash Princess has seen her land pillaged and her people enslaved, that all ends here. Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor I read  Strange the Dreamer  and I absolutely loved it! That cliffhanger had me so upset! I also love the covers and appreciate it when covers match up. .................................................................................................................................................... Wildcard by Marie Lu I recently read  Warcross  and again was upset with the cliffhanger! I do not like this cover though, it looks like a house of mirrors at the circus. .................................................................................................................................................... Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak I've heard such good things about this book! I haven't read any of Zusak's other books, but they all have such good reviews! This cover is so pretty, especially the pastel colors in the background. ...........................................................

The Darkest Legacy by Alexandra Bracken ★ ★ ★ ★ This book picks about 5 years after  In The Afterlight . Zu is now 17, and has become the spokesperson for the government, helping give Psi kids the same rights as everyone else. She is accused of committing an act, she definitely didn't do, she is forced to go on the run once again, only this time with strangers. Zu finds herself on the run with two not very trusty worthy allies, Roman and Priyanka. As Zu travels, she grows closer to people she knows she shouldn't trust, meanwhile uncovering even darker things happening right underneath the government's watchful eye. Zu must again fight against forces who try to make Psi run back into hiding and save her friends. Roman, whom I love, and his and Priyanka's friendship, is adorable. I liked the quips between the three and especially when Liam entered the story. I liked how the relationship with Zu and Roman didn't happen until 400 or so pages into the book, ...

Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart ★ ★ Grace and Fury is about two sisters, Serina who has been prepped her whole live to be a Grace, for the Heir (basically the king's son) and Nomi, her sister and handmaiden who has stood by and helped Serina get ready for her role. Nomi is supposed to be the rebel of the two, having learned to read and write, which is forbidden in this world. Serina is chosen as a Grace and must compete against ten other girls to be one of the final three Graces. Nomi ends up catching the Heir's eye instead and Nomi is chosen as one of the final three Grace instead. We also find out that Nomi stole a book from the Heir's library, the book is still in the Serina's room where Nomi had hidden it, Serina finds the book and is caught reading, even though she was just repeating stories Nomi used to tell her from the book.
