Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart Review

Grace and Fury is about two sisters, Serina who has been prepped her whole live to be a Grace, for the Heir (basically the king's son) and Nomi, her sister and handmaiden who has stood by and helped Serina get ready for her role. Nomi is supposed to be the rebel of the two, having learned to read and write, which is forbidden in this world. Serina is chosen as a Grace and must compete against ten other girls to be one of the final three Graces. Nomi ends up catching the Heir's eye instead and Nomi is chosen as one of the final three Grace instead. We also find out that Nomi stole a book from the Heir's library, the book is still in the Serina's room where Nomi had hidden it, Serina finds the book and is caught reading, even though she was just repeating stories Nomi used to tell her from the book. Serina is sent to Mount Ruin, which she finds out there are daily fights to the death against other girls and women.

Such high expectations and I was sadly disappointed. I kept finding little things in this book that annoyed me or didn't make sense. I felt like Nomi was talking like she was all big and bad, but honestly she was acting like a coward. Serina was the one who I felt was actually the rebel.

The girls relationships were sweet on Mount Ruin, but I don't understand why everybody just kept following the Commander's rules for so long, there were a lot more of them then guards, they could have easily rebelled a while ago. Also, why did Oracle put in a girl who had obviously never fought before she got to MR into the ring? It made no sense, I feel like it would've worked with the plot more if it was a drawing, like The Hunger Games reaping.

I understand that this book was supposed to be a girl empowerment book, but there were only two guys that were king to Serina and Nomi, (if you're counting the Heir.) Most guys are kind, and help people in need, this story needed more realistic guys.

Every plot twist, especially the last twist with Asa, was predictable. I knew he was going be backstabbing Nomi in the end. I felt like this whole book was a slightly different version of Everless by Sara Holland, which was one of my favorite reads this year. The brothers characters in both stories were almost identical.

I will read the sequel, the idea of Mount Ruin and the Heir is a cool concept, the problems I have with this book isn't so much the world or story, it's the characters.

The Gilded Wolves ARC Review

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi ★ ★ I still have no clue what the main plot of this book, and I have no idea why it's called Gilded Wolves. This was one of my most anticipated reads for January, and I was thrilled to receive an ARC of it. It was disappointing to say the least, which seemed to be how all my reads have been in January. It was a relief when I finally finished this book. It seems like the author was trying so hard to not make to not make this book like Six of Crows, that the more she tried not to, the more the book seemed to be like SoC. At throughout almost the entire book, I had no clue what was happening and nothing was vividly painting a picture of who was doing what and why. I do love the cover, but it doesn't really make any sense with why the title is what it is and why the cover is what it is. I just wanted to love this book so badly, and it had such potential, but ultimately, it let me down.
